- We are Christian.
We confess together, "Jesus is risen. Jesus is Lord." We desire Jesus to be central in our individual,
corporate, and community life. We commit ourselves to a servant spirit permeating the entire organization.
We will maintain our identity as Christian, while being sensitive to the diverse contexts in which we express that
identity;
- We are committed to the poor and ill.
We are called specifically to serve among the needy. The ease of their suffering and the possibility of change in
their condition is what motivates our existence. We seek to understand their reality and help them organize themselves
to overcome that which prevents their growth towards fullness of life.
When permissible we share our discovery of eternal hope in Jesus Christ.
As a channel of compassionate local response, we respect the poor and ill as active participants, not passive recipients,
in this relationship. They are people from whom we may learn and receive, as well as serve;
- We value people
We regard all people as created and loved by God.
We give priority to people before money, structure, systems and other institutional machinery. We act in ways that
respect the dignity, uniqueness, and intrinsic worth of every person-the clients, the donors, our own staff and their
families, boards, and volunteers. We celebrate the richness of diversity in human personality, culture, and contribution.
We promote the professional, personal, and spiritual development of our staff;
- We are stewards
Our resources are a sacred trust from God, given on behalf of the needy. We are faithful to the purpose for which those
resources are given and manage them in a manner that makes the maximum amount available to benefit the needy.
We speak and act in truth. We are transparent and factual in our dealings with donors, communities, government, the
public at large, and with each other. We strive for consistency between what we say and what we do;
We demand of ourselves high standards of professional competence and accept the need to be accountable through appropriate
structures for achieving these standards. We assist others through training, encouragement and advice to accomplish good
work and personal growth;
- We are partners
We affirm and promote unity in the Body of Christ.
We pursue dialogue with all churches and desire partnership in ministry where we have common objectives. We maintain a
cooperative stance, a spirit of openness, and willingness to work with other humanitarian organizations in order to
fulfill our ministry calling.
We are willing to receive and consider honest opinions from others about our work;
- We are responsive
We are responsive to the changing challenges faced by the ill and needy in our communities. We recognize that even in
the midst of crisis, the sick and needy have a contribution to make from their experience.
We are responsive to new and unusual opportunities. We encourage innovation, creativity and flexibility. We maintain
an attitude of learning, reflection and discovery in order to grow in understanding and skill.
